First: how long is it supposed to stay locked?
The lock is not on a timer that runs alongside the cycle. It is released when the control sees the cavity temperature drop below a threshold it has been watching for, which means the door stays shut well past the moment the heat switches off. Cooling a heavy, well-insulated cavity takes far longer than most people expect.
That single mechanism explains nearly every call about this. From the kitchen there is nothing to watch: the display may show a cooling state or simply the time, a fan may run on for a stretch, and the handle stays immovable throughout. Nothing is broken while that is happening. The appliance is doing precisely what it was designed to do, and the only useful action is to leave it alone.
While you wait, gather three observations, because they are what a diagnosis is built from later. Is the display lit and responsive to a touch, or blank? Is anything running — a cooling fan, a hum? Is a code showing, and if so what characters exactly? Write the code down before doing anything else; it will be gone the moment power is interrupted, and reconstructing it from memory an hour later is worthless.

A thermal fuse is a deliberate sacrifice. What the latch is and how it fails
Under the trim above the door sit a pair of components: a small motor that drives a hook or a bolt across, and a switch that tells the control where that hook has actually ended up. The control will not open the door until the switch agrees with what it commanded. Two very different failures produce one identical symptom.
In the first, the motor never moved. The command went out, nothing happened mechanically, the switch reports the door still locked, and the control has no reason to think otherwise. In the second, the motor did move and released the hook, but the switch failed to confirm it — so the control keeps the appliance in a locked state even though the mechanism is standing open. From the kitchen the two look the same, which is why the diagnosis is made with a meter rather than by eye.
Heat contributes its own version. Travel that was free when the parts were cool can bind when everything around it has expanded, and spatter carbonised during the cycle can foul the path the bolt has to take. Both are ordinary post-clean findings.

When to stop and call
A burning-electrical smell ends the DIY stage on the spot, and so does a breaker that trips a second time after one reset, scorching or discolouration around the door trim, or a door still locked long after the appliance has gone cold. Any of those, leave it switched off at the breaker and make the call.
A visit settles what cannot be settled from a stool in the kitchen. Whether the latch motor is being commanded, and whether it actually responds. Whether the thermal fuse still has continuity across it. What the position switch is reporting back. And, where a code is showing, whether it describes a condition the control observed or a component that has failed, since a code names what the control noticed and never the part that caused it. Those checks take a meter and access, and they are the difference between replacing the right item and replacing three.
